ATLANTA, GEORGIA –Three Georgia State women’s soccer team members recently played for Puerto Rico’s U20 National Team in the CONCACAF U20 World Cup Qualifiers. Georgia State women’s soccer players Ana Diaz, Brooke Hart, and Alondra Nieves played for Puerto Rico last February 25 – March 12 in the Dominican Republic.
Puerto Rico was placed in Group E with the United States, Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua. Diaz played in 18 matches for the Panthers last fall after her sophomore season, finishing with a goal and an assist. She previously represented her home country of Puerto Rico in the 2020 CONCACAF Women’s U20 Tournament, starting in all four matches. Diaz became one of the youngest players to create a game at the FIFA CONCACAF Qualifier against Haiti and Suriname in October 2019.
Also, coming off her sophomore season, Hart played in eight matches, taking 11 shots last fall. Hart has international experience playing as a member of the 2019 U.S. Youth Soccer ODP South Region International team, where she played in Switzerland, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
Nieves, a freshman for the Panthers last fall, played in 13 games, scoring one goal and adding an assist.
In November, the Panthers ended the 2021 season, going 9-4-7, including a 3-1-6 mark in Sun Belt Conference play. The Panthers finished in third place in the conference and advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Championship.
