In a loss to Columbus Crew SC last week, Atlanta United has crashed out of what could be called an unconventional season in Major League Soccer this 2020 – the “MLS Is Back” tournament.
The club had a promising start before the season’s postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, in their return, Atlanta United failed to perform as expected with a goalless output. Although it was a disappointing exit for the team that’s representing our beautiful city, Atlanta United FC has a lot to be proud of for what they’ve done in the past. They are also looking ahead to the future with regards to achievements on and off the pitch. Head coach Frank De Boer, the man behind the championship season of the club in his first season in charge, has mutually agreed to part ways with the team. He left behind a strong culture that was molded and kickstarted by his efforts. ATL United 2 FC coach, Stephen Glass, has now been named as his temporary replacement.
WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO
The roster additions that Atlanta United has made will give fans a silver lining and sense of relief. Young guns like the 24-year-old JJ Williams and 17-year-old chosen Homegrown Player Tyler Wolff, as well as Mexican winger Jurgen Damm, can ensure added firepower coming into the next game. The club is now planning to allow fans to watch their games live, albeit with some modifications in compliance with social distancing and safeguarding efforts concerning the current pandemic.
UNITE AND CONQUER WITH COMPASSION AND SHARING
Off the pitch, Atlanta United has been quite active with its charitable and philanthropic efforts, given the current situation in the country as well.
They have proceeded to deliver meals to various schools in the Marietta area. The club’s players have also taken part in their social advocacies by standing up for those most affected in the country’s recent racial-related tensions. Benefactors associated with the club have also pledged financial and moral support to those afflicted by the COVID-19 crisis.
The future is bright for the club members that have experienced a confusing and unexpected turn of events for the current year.
Athletes and team staff have shown no sense of detachment to the community, offering a sense of togetherness that leaves such a lasting effect on their reputation among the local community. Not only have they shown their excellence in sports, but also with the rest of the members of Atlanta. Unite and conquer, whatever it may be, for the greater good!
