ATLANTA, GEORGIA—On Saturday, Atlanta United played Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the club’s annual match to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month. Atlanta United dominated the Supporters Shield contenders, especially in the second half, limiting Philadelphia to just five shots and no shots on goal.
The 5-Stripes shut out a side that had scored 23 goals in the previous five matches, but they couldn’t finish despite taking 15 shots, and the game ended in a scoreless draw. Gonzalo Pineda may have found the steadiness he’s been waiting for with his starting lineup. For the third time in a row, Atlanta United’s head coach used the same starting lineup.
Atlanta United will take a short hiatus while the FIFA international window begins in September. Four 5-Stripes players and three Atlanta United 2 players have been called to national teams.
There are only two games left in Atlanta United’s regular season. The first was on October 1st, at the New England Revolution. Then, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, it’s Decision Day as Atlanta United takes on New York City FC. It’s the final home match of the MLS regular season, so get your tickets now!
