ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The Atlanta United 2 has found its winning groove. On Saturday, United 2 beat the home team Hartford Athletic at the Trinity Health Stadium to extend their winning streak to two.
Nick Firmino was a man on mission for United 2 as he scored the two winning goals for the visiting team. Earlier, forward Jackson Conway scored a hat trick to help the team ends its three-game losing streak. On March 27, Conway’s heroics helped his team beat the visiting Charleston Battery FC 4-1 at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
United 2 (2-3-0, 6 points) returns to Fifth Third Bank Stadium to face off against USL Championship newcomers Detroit City FC on Saturday, April 9 (ESPN+, 7:30 p.m. ET). United 2 is hoping to have a great USL Championship campaign this year since it is their last appearance in the league.
According to reports, United 2 will transfer to the Major League Soccer NEXT Pro in 2023. The new league aims to create an “integrated player pathway from MLS NEXT through to MLS first teams” by serving as a bridge from the Academies to the professional system. The league is scheduled to debut in March 2022.
