ATLANTA, GEORGIA—After veteran striker Sergio Aguero,  FC Barcelona got another star on a free transfer by signing Aguero’s former teammate at Manchester City fast-rising defender Eric Garcia.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Barca said Garcia, 20, is set to sign a contract until 2026 on July 1 when his deal with City expires.
Barca said Garcia will be formally presented to the media on Tuesday and that his buyout clause has been fixed at €400 million.
The team has big hopes for Garcia since the fast-rising professional soccer defender first joined Barca’s La Masia academy in 2008 and came through the club’s youth system at the same time as Ansu Fati.
However, instead of playing for Barca after the academy, Garcia signed with City in 2017 and has since made 35 appearances for the first team under Pep Guardiola.
Before signing with Barca, Garcia, who is part of Luis Enrique’s Spain squad for this summer’s European Championship got several interests from other clubs.
However, after careful thought, Garcia decided to sign with Barca and return to return to Camp Nou.
