ATLANTA, GEORGIA—For two successive games, Atlanta United 2 FC midfielder Aiden McFadden played hero as he scored two goals in his team’s 2-2 draw with the visiting Memphis 901 FC Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
The twin goals are the fourth goal for McFadden in almost a week and saved his team from suffering defeat against the aggressive and focussed Memphis team.
McFadden scored his previous two goals in his team’s largest margin of victory in a 5-0 win against the visiting FC Tulsa last May 19 also at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Playing two successive games in front of its fans, United 2 controlled the tempo from the outset of the blistering midday match.
However, the home team failed to capitalize on the opportunity and allowed Memphis to score two goals which almost cost them the match.
Atlanta United 2 (2-1-2, 8 points) hopes to make up for its blunder and get back on the winning track when they host the Birmingham Legion FC on May 30 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium (ESPN+, 3:30 p.m. ET).
