ATLANTA, GEORGIA—For showing remarkable performance as a member of the Atlanta United 2 the past year, the Atlanta United management has decided to sign a contract to its first team midfielder Ajani Fortune.

On July 21, United announced it had signed Fortune to a Homegrown contract through the 2024 season with multiple additional option years, effective Jan. 1, 2023. United 2 signed Fortune to an agreement in 2021. Before playing with United 2 FC, Fortune, 19, joined the Atlanta United Academy before the 2018-19 season.

The Marietta, Georgia native made 19 appearances with the U-17s that year and scored five goals while featuring in three matches with the U-19s. In the 2019-20 season, Fortune played in four matches with the U-19s. Additionally, the midfielder earned his first senior team international call-up with Trinidad and Tobago on Jan. 31, 2021, and has made four appearances. Despite their recent losing woes, United 2 FC is having a great year under first-year head coach Jack Collison, sitting on a 6-7-8 mark and in the hunt for their first-ever playoff bid.
