As the boys’ soccer season of 2024 gets off, a number of Northside teams have made a name for themselves as some of the best in the state.

Atlanta International (Class A, Division I) and Westminster (AAAA), two local teams that placed second in their respective state playoff brackets, have once again established themselves as two of Georgia’s top teams as the 2024 season gets underway.
Atlanta International (4-0-1) became the top team in Class A, Division I according to both the ScoreAtlanta and Scorbord state rankings. The squad just missed out on a second straight state championship after losing to Paideia in the title game.
Both ScoreAtlanta and Scorbord place Westminster (6-1-1), runner-up in Class AAAA, second following the team’s loss to Johnson of Gainesville in the title game.
North Atlanta (6-1) has emerged as a team to watch in Class AAAAAA, rating No. 3 by ScoreAtlanta and No. 4 by Scorbord. North Atlanta did not make it to the state semifinals the previous year.
The only other local team in the AAAAAA standings is St. Pius X (4-2), who finished as a state quarterfinalist in 2023. They are placed ninth in the ScoreAtlanta poll and tenth by Scorbord.
Additional boys’ soccer teams in the area that are ranked by the state are Pace Academy (2-3), which is ranked sixth in AAAA and seventh in ScoreAtlanta; Mount Vernon (0-3-4), which is ranked sixth in Class A, Division I and seventh in ScoreAtlanta; and Galloway (2-2), which is ranked sixth in ScoreAtlanta and seventh in Division I. Pace Academy and Galloway both lost in the first round of the state playoffs in AAAA and A, Division I, respectively and Mount Vernon did not make it to the postseason.
After making it to the state quarterfinals in AAAAAA last year, Riverwood (4-2-1) is off to a great start. Woodward Academy (4-2-1), which lost in the first round of the AAAAAA playoffs in 2023, and Marist (3-1), which missed out on the AAAAAA playoffs the previous year, have also gotten off to good starts in 2024.
Additional nearby teams are Holy Innocents (2-3-1), who were defeated by Johnson of Gainesville in the AAAA playoffs’ second round last year; Lovett (2-3-1), who was defeated in the AAAA playoffs’ first round; North Springs (2-4-1); The Weber School (2-3) and Atlanta Classical Academy (2-1), who were eliminated from the state playoffs in AAAAA, A, Division I and A, Division II, respectively.
