Numerous additions to the U.S. soccer team have been announced by U.S. technical staff for the Women’s National Team as Emma Hayes takes over as head coach.
Hayes is accompanied by three coaching staff members from Chelsea FC, where she spent the previous twelve years spearheading the team’s historic English success, which included five straight Women’s Super League titles. She will be joined on the U.S. bench by American Denise Reddy, a former standout at Rutgers, a longtime professional player in Sweden, a former head coach in Europe, the NWSL, and the USL, and Hayes’ assistant for the previous four years in London. Reddy used to be an assistant for the U.S. Women’s Youth National Team’s Under-20 squad and possesses a UEFA Pro License.
Leading the goalie group is Wimbledon, England native Stuart Searle, who spent nearly her whole career as Chelsea’s goalkeeper coach under Hayes.
He had the opportunity to work with some of the best female goalkeepers in the world while at Chelsea, including England’s best young ‘keeper Hannah Hampton, Zećira Mušović and Hedvig Lindahl from Sweden, and most recently Ann-Katrin Berger from Germany who is currently with NY/NY Gotham FC.
Searle has spent more than 20 years working with Chelsea in a variety of roles. Twila Kilgore, the former interim head coach, will continue to serve as an assistant coach, as was originally announced when Hayes was chosen head coach in November of last year.
Furthermore, Bart Caubergh, a Belgian native, has joined Hayes’ team as the new program director. He will be in charge of ensuring that all employees and departments for the senior U.S. The national team for women.
Caubergh will contribute to the short-, medium-, and long-term strategic planning for the team’s success by closely collaborating with the WNT leadership team, particularly in the areas of technical, performance, and operations. In charge of all on-and off-field activity planning and player periodization will be essential responsibilities of his position.
Before the 2023–24 season began, Caubergh rejoined the Chelsea Women after working with them in 2019–20 and 2020–21. She then assumed the role of head of performance. He travels to the US. soccer with a UEFA “A” coaching license and a wealth of international experience. Caubergh holds master’s degrees in business administration and sport science.
Performance coach Ferdia O’Hanrahan, who will collaborate with current head of performance Nathan Sherlock and work across all team departments, and opposition analyst Cameron Meighan, who will work with lead analyst Kate Cohen and collaborate across all team departments, are two more Chelsea backroom staff members who will join the USWNT.
Luis Guevara, who formerly played Major League Soccer for D.C., has also been hired by Soccer. United, taking over as the WNT performance analyst, leaving a vacancy.
