KENNESAW, Ga. (July 9, 2025) — On a humid night at Fifth Third Stadium, Atlanta United 2 battled FC Cincinnati 2 to a 0-0 draw before falling in a penalty shootout. The 5-Stripes recorded their third clean sheet of the season, but couldn’t convert in the decisive spot kicks. Cayman Togashi made his return from injury, adding pace and presence to the Atlanta front line.
Atlanta had several promising moments, particularly through Javier Armas, Luke Brennan, and Cooper Sanchez, but were unable to find the back of the net. Armas came close in the 40th with a curling effort that was palmed away by Cincinnati’s Nathan Crockford, and Moises Tablante rattled the crossbar moments later.
Cincinnati threatened in the second half, but the Atlanta backline — led by Jayden Hibbert — held firm. In stoppage time, Cincinnati’s Yorkaerff Caicedo was sent off after a second yellow, but Atlanta couldn’t break through in regulation.
In penalties, Armas and Kaiden Moore missed for Atlanta, while Cincinnati converted four attempts to take the extra point.
