ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The Atlanta soccer community is now mourning the death of one of its well-loved members Darren Kaplan.
Kaplan, a cherished member of the Atlanta Rovers FC family has recently died.
Rovers FC and the rest of the soccer-loving folks of Atlanta are now in deep sorrow due to the death of Kaplan who has done a lot in the soccer community here.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a cherished member of the Rovers FC family, Darren Kaplan. Darren was an integral piece of our club. Most of all, he was a tremendous person. He will be greatly missed. We offer prayers and condolences to his family as well,” Rovers FC said in a tweet.
Last December 1, Rovers FC beat Georgia Storm FC 4-0 at Alexander High School in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) Premier Georgia Division Fall tournament
After a forgettable performance in the first half, Rovers FC bounced back in the second half with four goals to defeat the Storm.
Last November 18, Rovers FC beat Augusta United FC 3-1 at South Gwinnett Park.
The win is sweet for Rovers who suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Atlanta Elephants FC at the Silverbacks Park last November 6.
Rovers star striker Cristopher Duron provided two goals for the team in their win.
UPSL is an American professional development soccer league founded in Santa Ana in Southern California.
The teams are considered regionalized conferences throughout the United States, and recently Canada and Mexico.
The league was founded in 2011 by Santa Ana Winds FC President Leonel López as a regional league for teams in Greater Los Angeles but expanded to include teams from 32 states as of the 2019 UPSL season.
Two seasons are played each year, with regional play culminating in a playoff system that crowns a single national champion each season.
The league features internal promotion and relegation with up to three levels in some regions; only clubs in the top tier Division I are eligible to compete for the national
championship.
The league is a United States Adult Soccer Association National League within the United States soccer league system.
