How amazing the weekend was! An incredible second Beer City Cup Savannah was created by elite football mixed with perfect playing conditions.

To compete for $25K in cash prizes, 110 teams comprising players from over 30 states as well as Panama, flocked to the stunning city of Savannah.

In the city of Shamrock, we needed a little Savannah luck with the weather. The team’s check-in was delayed by one hour on Friday due to the rain, but by Saturday morning the puddles had subsided and the playing surfaces remained stable throughout the weekend.

This year’s variation resulted in free beer for everyone (donations accepted). There weren’t many complaints about that, and everyone seemed to be happy with the outcome. Thank you for the great suds, Coastal Empire, a local brewery in Savannah!

Twelve Beer City Cup champions had been crowned by Sunday afternoon, and the grounds were buzzing with excitement.

In the Men’s Premier Division, Pasha Luxury (ATL, GA) ran the table to take home the $5,000 grand prize. After squeaking through the Quarters and Semifinals with 2-1 victories, Pasha rang up some late goals to pull away and win lavishly in the final 7-2 over bridesmaids Blue Ion (Charleston, SC). Beer City Cup icons Blue Ion turned it around impressively after a rough start in Savannah, losing their first game to eventual semifinalists Ravioli Boyz (St. Louis,MO). Blue Ion then charged ahead, winning 3 straight before their demise in the finals. Dirty South (Savannah,GA) rounded out the semis, advancing through the QF with a tight 2-1 win over Savannah defending champs, Lettuce (McDonough,GA).

The Women’s Premier Division has become impressively redundant. Winger FC (CLT, NC) has soared to new heights, landing a 5th consecutive Beer City Cup women’s division crown. They have, however, been tested taken to the limit in the past two tournaments; winning in penalties in Asheville and on a thrilling extra-time game-winning header in Savannah versus first-time entrant Shelby’s Angels (ATL,GA). Here’s to hoping there’s a rematch of the 2-1 drama-filled final. Shelby’s Angels had just enough air under their wings to take down All Washed Up (Greenville,SC) 3-2 in the semis. In a rematch of last year’s Savannah Women’s final, One Knox (Knoxville,TN) battled Winger and came up just short of getting revenge,
falling 1-0. It’s great to see that such a competitive Women’s Premier Division has formed and we look forward to seeing this division in Indy this summer!

For the first time, Winger (CLT,NC) captured the Coed Premier title as well. Winger shelled the Speedy Turtles (ATL,GA) in the final 2-1. The Speedy Turtles outpaced Nash Azul (NVL,TN) 1-0 in the semis and were too slow and steady for La Real QCFC (CLT,NC) in the quarters, winning 3-1. Perennial contenders Olde London Road (Asheville, NC) made another strong run and were edged 3-2 by Winger in the other semifinal. Fresh competition awaits this division in Indianapolis!

In their 2nd ever Beer City Cup, La Ferneta (Hallandale Beach, FL) got it done in the Over 30 Division, triumphantly celebrating after toppling 2-time O30 Champs Chivas Viejos (Raleigh-Durham,NC) 3-1 in the final. The road wasn’t easy for La Ferneta, after opening with a 1-1 draw with defending champs Large Farva (Greenville,SC). From there they went on a 4-game streak, ending in chants and revelry with a winner’s check in their grasp. After breaking Window World (ATL,GA) 3-2 in the quarterfinals, Deathwalkers (Augusta,GA) avoided their fate until the semifinals where La Ferneta grim reapered them 2-0. That’s two deep runs in 2 years straight in Savannah for Deathwalkers. The Over 30 will surely be bringing the heat in Asheville come Labor Day.

The Over 40 Division featured top-class competition across the entire 16-team division. In a thrilling culmination to the Over 40 division fans witnessed an exhilarating showdown between Panama Legend (Panama,PN) and the formidable Jupiter Strikers (Jupiter,FL) in the final match. The division had already showcased exceptional talent, but the final surpassed all expectations, delivering a spectacle filled with drama, passion, and moments of sheer brilliance. In the decisive moment of pure drama, with the final minutes ticking away, Panama broke through with a lightning strike from 30 yards out sealing a dramatic 2-1 victory to win their first Beer City Cup title in their first attempt. Hazelwood Brewing (Charleston,SC) and defending Savannah champs ReUnited Quest (ATL,GA) made strong showings in advancing to the semifinals of a very stout division. As the dust settled on the Beer City Cup Over 40 division final, memories of this epic encounter will linger for years to come. It was a testament to the enduring passion and competitive spirit of adult soccer, reminding us all of the thrill and excitement that the beautiful game brings, regardless of age or background. Panama Legends will attempt to stay hot and continue their Beer City streak in Indianapolis in July. We can’t wait!

In another episode of “Is this deja vu?”, reigning Asheville champs, Panama Legend (Panaman,PN) captured the Over 50 Division title breezing to a 4-0 win over defending Savannah champs Luisitano Atlanta in the final. The final was surprisingly anticlimatic given that Luisitano (ATL,GA) had dominated in their run to the final, winning their first 4 games by a combined score of 27-1. Schurke (Athens, AL) gave Panama a run in the semis, falling by a respectable 4-2 scoreline. In a rematch of last year’s final, Madra Rua (Charleston,SC) met the same fate in succumbing to Luisitano. Panama’s toughest challenge came from St. Pete Aztecs (St. Pete,FL) and it happened to come in the first game of the tournament, a hard-fought 3-2 Panamian victory. Beer City may need to change its anthem to Van Halen’s “Panama” if the Panamanian dominance continues. Only Indy knows.

The Over 55 Division likes to keep us guessing as for the 3rd time in as many tournaments it has a different champ. VOP Charleston (SC) out-touched reigning Asheville champs TOCA (ATL,GA) 2-0 in the final, capping their first-ever Beer City Cup title. They sent another Atlanta team packing in the semis, out-howling the Vintage Coyotes 4-1. TOCA disbanded defending Savannah champs Greenville (SC) in the Quarters and imploded the Dynamo (Los Angeles, CA) 2-1 in a super-heated semifinal. The Over 55 has become a division of intrigue, with several teams already rearing to go for Indianapolis.

The 8-team Over 60 Division had teams representing 7 different states: Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina. In taking home their first Beer City Cup Over 60 division crown Tampa Bay Florin (FL) kept it from being Hammer-time in the final. Tampa Florin laid down a 2-1 win in out-pounding perennial contenders Hammers (ATL,GA). Hammers qualified for the final with a 4-1 win in the semis over Maryland Soccer Legends (Baltimore,MD). CML B-side (Charleston,SC) got in the groove in recording a 2nd place finish in their 4-team group to claim the other semifinal spot.

Savannah hosted the first-ever Beer City Cup Over 65 Division, which by all accounts was a smashing success. Bucks United (Philadelphia, PA) tracked down the inaugural O65 crown. Bucks Utd.barely out-pointed Hammers (ATL,GA) 3-2 in the final after dropping all 3 teams in group play by a combined score of 10-1. Longtimers (indianapolis, IN) and HCC Cincinatti tied for 3rd in the group wiith a potential meeting in Indianapolis looming next. What a great start to a promising division. Special thanks to all the teams and to John Wade for their efforts. We look forward to a great time at summer’s biggest adult soccer party in Indiana!

The 5-team Women’s Rec. Division featured epic late drama. After going undefeated group play Pathetico Madrid (Columbia,SC) was living dangerously in the final versus Panama Legend. Trailing 2-1 in the final seconds, Pathetico found an equalizer to send it to extra time. A scoreless extra time led to penalties, where Pathetico found their nerve from the spot to secure the first-ever Beer City Cup Women’s Rec Division championship. Panama will have a chance to get redemption in Indy as both teams will be representing at Grand Park Sports Campus.

Another first-time division was the 4-team Coed Rec. Pup-n-Suds (Fuquay Varina,NC) skated by We ‘Love’ Jane (Raleigh,NC) 2-1 in the final. The win in the final avenged an earlier loss In group play when Pup-n-Suds were hated on by We ‘Love’ Jane in a 2-1 loss. It remains to be seen whether Pup-n-Suds will cash in their free entry to Indy.

In the robust 8-team Over 40 Rec Division, CML (Charleston,SC) toppled Pro State (Louisville,KY) 3-2 in the final. FC Boone (NC) and Finn (Greensboro,NC) both made runs to the semis after they tied atop their group. Narwhals of Doom (Columbia,SC) were the only team to defeat CML and rumor has it that CML was simply intimidated by their name. 😉
