The 2s defeated Orlando City B 4-2 on Sunday at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, securing the club’s first-ever MLS NEXT Pro playoff berth.

The victory also moved Atlanta into third place in the Eastern Conference and guaranteed the club a home playoff match on Sunday, October 18.

The opponent and kickoff time will be announced later.

For Atlanta United 2, Decision Day delivered the result the club needed — and it came with two major individual milestones along the way.

Cameron Dunbar recorded his 12th and 13th assists of the season, tying the all-time MLS NEXT Pro single-season assist record and moving into first place in the league’s assist race this season.

At the other end of the scoring race, Arif Kovac scored his 20th goal of the season, extending his lead as MLS NEXT Pro’s top scorer.

It was a statement finish to the regular season for Atlanta.

Atlanta Strikes Early Through Kovac and Dunbar

Atlanta needed just three minutes to open the scoring.

Andrew Jardines won a second ball in the attacking third and drove forward before finding Dunbar on the left side of the box.

Dunbar delivered a first-time cross toward the center, where Kovac was charging toward goal.

The Atlanta striker got to the ball inches from goal and tapped it home to put Atlanta United 2 ahead.

For Kovac, the finish marked his 20th goal of the season.

For Dunbar, it was the beginning of another record-setting afternoon.

Orlando Answers From Distance

Orlando City B responded in the 18th minute.

During a transition, Gustavo Caraballo found Issah Haruna moving down the right wing.

Haruna carried the ball toward the right side of the box before suddenly striking with the outside of his left foot.

The shot traveled quickly past Jonathan Ransom at his near post to make it 1-1.

Atlanta, however, regained the lead before the half-hour mark.

Dunbar’s Corner Creates Atlanta’s Second Goal

In the 30th minute, Dunbar delivered another dangerous ball into the Orlando penalty area, this time from a corner kick on the left.

Orlando goalkeeper Tristan Himes came off his line attempting to punch the cross away.

Instead, the ball deflected off Harvey Sarajian, who was positioned directly in front of Himes.

The unexpected deflection sent the ball into the back of the net for an own goal, putting Atlanta back in front at 2-1.

Dunbar was once again at the center of the attack.

Suarez-Couri Makes It 3-1

Atlanta added a third goal in the 40th minute, with Dunbar again providing the final pass.

The sequence started with Jardines in the center of the attacking third.

He found Dunbar on the left, and Dunbar used quick feet to work his way into the box before driving toward the goal line.

Instead of shooting, Dunbar cut the ball back toward Ignacio Suarez-Couri.

Suarez-Couri ran onto the pass, opened up his body and guided the finish past Himes to make it 3-1.

The assist was Dunbar’s 13th of the season, tying the MLS NEXT Pro single-season assist record.

But Orlando wasn’t finished.

Orlando Cuts the Deficit Before Halftime

Two minutes into stoppage time, Orlando pulled another goal back.

Haruna and Justin Hylton combined on the right side, with Haruna eventually finding Hylton inside the box.

Hylton had time and space to shoot and fired toward the near post from a similar area to Orlando’s first goal.

Ransom appeared positioned to make the save, but the shot deflected off Dominik Chong Qui, changing its flight and sending it past the goalkeeper.

Atlanta’s lead was down to 3-2 at halftime.

Chong Qui Provides the Insurance Goal

Atlanta restored its two-goal advantage in the 63rd minute through a solo effort from Chong Qui.

Ransom started the move with a long ball from his penalty area toward the left wing.

After Parker Amoo-Mensah failed to clear the ball, Chong Qui collected it with only Landon Okonski between him and the goalkeeper.

Chong Qui carried the ball into the box and faked a shot, sending Okonski to the ground.

Himes came off his line to try to close down the one-on-one opportunity, but Chong Qui calmly tapped the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs.

Atlanta was back in front by two goals at 4-2.

And this time, Orlando didn’t have another answer.

Atlanta Closes Out the Match

Following Chong Qui’s goal, Atlanta United 2 focused on controlling the match and protecting its advantage.

The defensive effort limited Orlando to just four shots for the remainder of the match.

Atlanta held on for the 4-2 victory, collected all three points and officially secured its place in the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs for the first time in club history.

The result also lifted Atlanta to 14-9-5 and 48 points.
