ATLANTA, GEORGIA–Reliable sources said Atlanta United 2 FC is set to remain in the United Soccer League (USL) despite the creation of a Major League Soccer Reserve League which is set to open in 2022.
Sources said aside from United 2 FC, New York Redbulls II, LA Galaxy II, and DC United’s Loudon FC have also decided to remain in USL despite the formation of the MSL reserve league.
The four teams reportedly decided to remain at USL because it offers high quality of competition in the US second division to mold their young talent, get valuable minutes for reserves, and audition potential new reserves for the future of their clubs.
At the moment United 2 FC is struggling in the ongoing USL championships.
The team suffered back-to-back defeats from Louisville City FC and Sporting Kansas City II.
United 2 FC (3-6-5, 14 points) hopes to avoid three straight defeats when they host the FC Tulsa on July 28 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium (ESPN+, 7:30 p.m).
