ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The dream of Atlanta United 2 FC to remain spotless at home and end the coaching stint of Tony Annan on a high note ended on a nightmare on Sunday at the Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
This scenario developed after the United 2 suffered a 0-1 home defeat against the visiting Birmingham Legion FC.
Bruno Lapa played hero for the Legion as he scored on a penalty kick to bring his team to victory against the home team.
Playing his last game as coach before he begins his next chapter as head coach for the University of South Carolina, Annan told his boys to start aggressive and strong.
However, the Legion defense was tough as it foiled all the goal attempts of United 2.
Aiden McFadden, who carried Atlanta United 2 to a victory and a draw in its last two games was not his usual self as he failed to score a goal for his team in their defeat.
ATL UTD 2 (2-2-2, 8 points) hopes to get back to the winning track against Louisville City FC, June 6 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium (ESPN+, 7:30 p.m. ET).
