ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The dream of Atlanta United 2 FC to enter the playoffs in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship is not yet over after all.
On Thursday, the United Soccer League (USL) officials have decided to forfeit the 1-0 win of Sporting Kansas City II against United 2 FC on Wednesday night at Children’s Mercy Park.
The United 2 FC loss could have ended the playoff dream of the team.
In awarding the win to United 2 FC, USL discovered that an ineligible player played for Sporting Kansas City II on Wednesday night against Atlanta United 2.
SKC II midfielder Jake Davis was scheduled to serve a one-game suspension for caution accumulation during the contest but instead played the full 90 minutes.
Davis will serve the suspension on Oct. 24 at Birmingham Legion FC.
Per league rules, United 2 FC has been awarded a 3-0 victory.
Atlanta moves to 34 points and remains in contention to reach the USL Championship Playoffs.
United 2 FC (8-13-11, 34 points) hopes to keep their playoff hope alive with a win when they visit Memphis 901 FC at AutoZone Park on October 16 (ESPN+, 7:00 p.m. ET).
