After 98 long days away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta United gave the 17s exactly what they had been waiting for.
The 5-Stripes came from behind with two second-half goals to defeat Red Bull New York 2-1 on Saturday night, turning a frustrating start into a dramatic homecoming victory. Tristan Muyumba scored the equalizer in the 69th minute before Fafa Picault delivered the winner 13 minutes later.
It was Atlanta United’s first match back at Mercedes-Benz Stadium since the FIFA World Cup break—and the kind of result the club desperately needed.

Red Bulls Strike Early, But Atlanta United Keeps Fighting
Atlanta came out with plenty of energy, clearly eager to make a statement in front of the returning 17s. But Red Bull New York matched that intensity and struck first.
The visitors opened the scoring in the sixth minute when a quick combination through Atlanta’s defense sent Emil Forsberg through on goal. The Swedish star calmly placed his finish into the left side of the net to give New York a 1-0 lead.
Atlanta gradually settled into the match, with Alexey Miranchuk, Miguel Almirón and Muyumba becoming increasingly involved in the buildup.
The 5-Stripes created opportunities to get back into the game. Almirón broke forward in the 26th minute and found Muyumba arriving with Picault also joining the attack, but Muyumba’s attempt sailed over the bar.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos kept Atlanta within striking distance with a difficult close-range save against Forsberg in the 20th minute.
Despite several promising attacking sequences, Atlanta entered halftime trailing 1-0.

Tristan Muyumba Makes His 100th Appearance Count
The Red Bulls came out strongly after halftime and forced Atlanta deeper into its own half. The 5-Stripes had their own opportunity to equalize in the 51st minute when Almirón found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper from a tight angle, but his shot rolled wide.
Atlanta kept pushing.
Then, in the 69th minute, Muyumba gave the 17s the moment they had been waiting for.
Making his 100th appearance in all competitions for Atlanta United, the midfielder received the ball just inside the box and unleashed a right-footed curling strike into the right side of the net.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium erupted.
The goal leveled the match at 1-1 and marked Muyumba’s second consecutive game with a goal.
Fafa Picault Completes the Comeback
With the crowd behind them, Atlanta sensed a chance to complete the turnaround.
That opportunity arrived in the 82nd minute.
Almirón delivered a ball toward the back post and found Picault, who directed a header back across the face of goal. Red Bulls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath attempted to stop it, but the ball deflected off him and into the net.
Whether luck played a role or not, Atlanta wasn’t complaining.
Picault had the winner, Atlanta had the lead, and the Benz was celebrating.
Almirón’s assist also carried historic significance. It was his 41st assist for Atlanta United, tying Brooks Lennon for the most assists in club history.
Atlanta still had work to do, though.
Hoyos made another important low save in the 87th minute, while Ronald Hernández produced a crucial last-ditch clearance in the 90th minute to help preserve the lead.
When the final whistle sounded, the 5-Stripes had completed a 2-1 comeback and secured three massive points in their return home.
