ATLANTA — Atlanta United 2 has announced the signing of 16-year-old Academy defender Dominik Chong Qui to a contract through the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season, with plans for him to join the First Team on an MLS contract beginning January 1, 2026, as a Homegrown player. His First Team contract will run through the 2028 MLS season, with an option for 2029.

Javier Perez, Atlanta United’s Director of Methodology, praised Chong Qui’s growth:

“Dominik is a very talented player who has progressed through our development pathway at an excellent rate. He showcased his skills on both ends of the pitch this past year with Atlanta United 2, and we look forward to his continued development and success with the club during his first full season as a professional next year.”

Rising Star of the Academy

Chong Qui made significant strides in 2024, recording 1,128 minutes in 17 appearances (12 starts) for Atlanta United 2. He debuted professionally against Orlando City B on June 30 and went on to score two goals during the season. His performances earned him the MLS NEXT Player of Matchweek 18.

A standout in Atlanta United’s Academy, Chong Qui played a vital role in the U-16 team’s 2023 MLS NEXT Cup Championship victory.

International Prospects

Eligible to represent the United States, Chong Qui’s talents have not gone unnoticed on the international stage. He received a call-up to the United States U-17 squad for a domestic training camp in September 2023.

Development Pathway

This signing underscores Atlanta United’s commitment to developing young talent through its Academy and providing a clear pathway to professional soccer. Chong Qui’s continued progression with Atlanta United 2 will set the foundation for his eventual transition to the First Team in 2026.

Atlanta fans can look forward to watching this promising young defender evolve as a key figure for the club in the coming years.
