Atlanta United 2 produced one of the most explosive performances in club history Saturday night.
Trailing 2-0 late in the first half, Atlanta United 2 stormed back to crush Huntsville City FC 6-2 at Wicks Family Field behind a historic five-goal performance from striker Arif Kovac.
The comeback victory extended Atlanta’s away winning streak to four matches while Kovac set a new club record for goals scored in a single game.
And by the final whistle, the match had transformed from frustrating to unforgettable.
Huntsville Controlled the First Half Early
For much of the opening half, Huntsville looked firmly in control.
The home side opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Leo Christiano capitalized on a dangerous corner kick sequence, firing a half-volley into the bottom corner after Atlanta failed to clear the ball.
Things became even more chaotic late in the half.
Huntsville midfielder Maximus Ekk received a second yellow card in the 41st minute after a dangerous aerial challenge, reducing the hosts to 10 men.
But instead of immediately collapsing, Huntsville doubled its lead moments later after a defensive miscommunication by Atlanta gifted Julian Gaines an easy finish.
At halftime, Atlanta United 2 faced a shocking 2-0 deficit despite holding a man advantage.
Arif Kovac Takes Over the Match
Then came the Arif Kovac show.
The striker completely transformed the game in the second half with one of the greatest individual performances in MLS NEXT Pro history.
Kovac’s five-goal eruption included:
- a composed volley finish
- a back-post header
- another powerful header for the go-ahead goal
- a rebound finish
- a final late strike to complete the record-breaking night
His movement inside the box became nearly impossible for Huntsville to contain once Atlanta began controlling possession against the undermanned defense.
The equalizer arrived in the 66th minute before Kovac completed the comeback with his third goal in the 75th minute.
From there, the floodgates opened.

Atlanta Fully Dominates After Second Red Card
Huntsville’s night went from difficult to disastrous in the 80th minute.
Midfielder Moisés Véliz Rodriguez picked up two yellow cards within less than a minute, reducing Huntsville to nine players.
Atlanta immediately took advantage of the numerical mismatch.
Liam Butts added another goal in stoppage time before Kovac scored twice more in the closing minutes to complete his historic five-goal performance.
Andrew Jardines also recorded his first professional assist during the late scoring barrage.
By the end, Atlanta had scored six unanswered goals.
