ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Phoenix Rising FC defeated Atlanta United 2 3-1 on Saturday night at Wild Pass Stadium. Vicente Reyes recorded a new ATL UTD 2 single-season save record in 2022 with 86 saves after making 4 saves that evening. The third stop of the evening for the 18-year-old goalie came in the 43rd minute on a shot from Phoenix forward Santi Moar. Reyes now holds the ATL UTD 2 single-season save record, surpassing Dylan Castanheira’s 84-save mark from 2019.

Gabi Torres scored the game’s opening goal in the 53rd minute. On the left edge of the Atlanta penalty area, Phoenix captain Luis Seijas could locate Torres, and the Brazilian striker used his left foot to hit the inside of the right-side netting. Phoenix increased its lead by two goals in the 58th second. Moar and Torres exchanged one-two passes in the Phoenix box before Moar fired toward the Atlanta goal. Although Reyes managed to catch the ball, the Spaniard’s shot bounced off the bar and into the net instead.

Phoenix’s top scorer Aodhan Quinn assisted on the third goal for the home team in the 72nd minute. Quinn scored his ninth goal of the year after taking a touch after an Atlanta defender stopped an effort from Seijas. On September 3, Jackson Conway broke the single-season scoring record for ATL UTD 2, a mark that the striker added to tonight in the 80th minute with his 11th goal of the year. Despite being pressed by goalie Ben Lundt, Tristan Trager took a pass from Alan Carleton on the byline and directed it toward Conway. Conway completed the simple tap-in opportunity and added a free throw for the guests.
