Atlanta United are now unbeaten in seven straight matches. This week against Chicago they will attempt to make it eight. See which five players to watch.
Atlanta United is on fire (no pun intended). Meanwhile, Chicago is looking to put out that fire as they ride their own unbeaten run of five matches. Atlanta always has players to watch, but before I get to them I will point out a few of Chicago’s players.
Chicago has two players Atlanta will have to work extra hard to neutralize: Bastian Schweinsteiger and Nemanja Nikolic. Schweinsteiger is a key cog in Chicago’s midfield while Nikolic does most of the goal scoring.
With that in mind, here are five players to watch for.
Josef Martinez is still leading the league in goals scored with 6, but he was held scoreless last week against Montreal. Martinez had his share of chances but was unable to capitalize. The Venezuelan is very hungry for goals at all times. In fact, when he doesn’t find a way to score, the frustration is very apparent.
That’s why, after failing to score last week, I am looking for Martinez to find the back of the net this week. I’ve already mentioned his low scoring rate on the road, but after scoring in Atlanta’s last road outing, perhaps Martinez has found some road mojo and can score again in Chicago. Plus, if Martinez can’t find a way to score, teammate Miguel Almiron can score for him considering he also has a league leading 6 goals.
Atlanta was blanked in Chicago last year, so Martinez and Almiron will be crucial to the team’s success this time around.
