Atlanta United has two major reinforcements available for Saturday night’s showdown with Inter Miami CF.
Breel Embolo and Mauricio Amaro are officially eligible to play for Atlanta United, with neither player appearing on the club’s Friday availability report. That clears the way for head coach Tata Martino to potentially turn to both newcomers when the 5-Stripes face Inter Miami at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday night.
After spending the opening stretch of their Atlanta tenures waiting for their visa and eligibility situations to be resolved, Embolo and Amaro can now become part of the team’s matchday equation.
That gives Martino significantly more options than he had in last weekend’s loss to Charlotte FC.
Breel Embolo, Mauricio Amaro Cleared for Atlanta United
The biggest development is the availability of Embolo, whose arrival gives Atlanta another powerful option in the attack.
The Swiss striker was unveiled by Atlanta on Aug. 23 and has been working toward his first appearance with the club. With his visa situation resolved and league approval complete, Embolo is now eligible to make his Atlanta United debut.
Whether he starts or comes off the bench will ultimately be Martino’s decision, but simply having Embolo available changes the possibilities for Atlanta’s attack.
Amaro also becomes an option in midfield. Martino has described the 23-year-old as a player capable of operating as both a No. 6 and No. 8, giving Atlanta additional physicality and flexibility in the middle of the field.
The two additions could provide exactly the type of energy Martino has been looking for as Atlanta continues to reshape its roster.
Jay Fortune Remains Questionable
The one injury concern on Friday’s report is Jay Fortune, who is listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.
Fortune is working his way back from another hamstring issue, this time involving his opposite leg. The injuries have kept him sidelined since Atlanta’s July 17 match against Nashville SC.
The midfielder has returned to individual work during training over the past two weeks, but his availability for Miami remains undecided.
That leaves Martino with a decision to make regarding Fortune while the coaching staff continues to monitor his progress.
Atlanta United Availability Report — Friday, September 4
| Player | Injury/Reason | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Jay Fortune | Hamstring | Questionable |
| Giuliano Galoppo | Visa process | Out |
Giuliano Galoppo Still Waiting on Visa Clearance
While Atlanta’s other recent additions are becoming available, Giuliano Galoppo will have to wait.
The midfielder, who recently joined Atlanta on loan from River Plate, is listed as out because his visa process is still ongoing.
The club will hope that process moves quickly so Galoppo can join his new teammates and begin competing for minutes in Martino’s midfield.
For Saturday, however, Galoppo is not an option.
His absence also highlights how quickly Atlanta’s roster has been changing. The 5-Stripes have added multiple players during the Secondary Transfer Window, but integrating those players depends not only on training and fitness but also on the administrative process required to make them eligible.
Atlanta Has More Options Against Inter Miami
The timing of Embolo and Amaro’s availability is particularly important.
Atlanta is coming off a 2-0 loss to Charlotte FC that ended a three-match winning streak. Now the 5-Stripes face a very different opponent in Inter Miami, one with a deep collection of attacking talent and a preference for controlling matches through possession.
Against Charlotte, Atlanta’s attacking options were more limited. Saturday’s match should give Martino a larger group to work with.
ElÃas Báez returns from suspension, while Luke Brennan is also back after recovering from an ankle injury. Add Embolo and Amaro to that group, and Atlanta suddenly has additional options at multiple positions.
That does not guarantee an immediate turnaround, but it gives Martino more tools.
And against Inter Miami, having those tools could matter.
What This Means for Atlanta United
The availability report is encouraging for Atlanta, but the bigger question is how quickly these reinforcements can contribute.
Embolo has not yet played alongside Atlanta’s attacking group in a competitive match, while Amaro is still learning Martino’s midfield structure. Their presence could add physicality, intensity and versatility, but chemistry will take time.
Saturday’s match against Miami therefore becomes more than another difficult road test.
It is also an early opportunity to see what Atlanta’s revamped roster can look like with some of its newest pieces finally available.
The 5-Stripes now have Embolo and Amaro. The next challenge is figuring out how to make the new pieces fit.
