AUGUSTA, Ga. — Soccer just got a massive boost in Augusta, as the Atlanta United Community Fund (AUCF) unveiled two new full-size soccer fields for local youth programs. In partnership with Augusta Arsenal Soccer Club, these fields are the 10th and 11th pitches officially opened under the GA 100 initiative, a campaign aimed at growing soccer and increasing accessibility throughout Georgia.
To celebrate the milestone, Atlanta United stars Pedro Amador, Noah Cobb, and Jamal Thiare made the trip to Augusta, hosting a thrilling round-robin tournament for local youth players. It was a day filled with excitement, community, and a shared love for the beautiful game.
“We’re ecstatic to help create a space where soccer can flourish in Augusta,” said Skate Noftsinger, Atlanta United’s Chief Business Officer. “This milestone truly embodies the mission of GA 100—not just to build pitches, but to create opportunities for young players to pursue their passion and learn valuable life skills.”
Augusta Arsenal Soccer Club, a cornerstone of the local soccer community since 1982, has been instrumental in promoting youth soccer in the Central Savannah River Area. With over 30 teams ranging from U-9 to U-19, the club’s strong community ties and partnerships provide field access for Richmond County Recreation as well as local middle and high schools.
“This incredible gift from Atlanta United allows us to continue investing in soccer’s future here in Augusta,” said Nick Edmond, Executive Director of Augusta Arsenal. “These new fields are more than just spaces to play—they are places where our community can grow, thrive, and experience the joy of soccer.”
The GA 100 campaign, in partnership with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), has a goal of building up to 100 mini-pitches in underserved communities across Georgia. With a commitment of up to $100,000 in matching grants, the program helps local organizations build or improve soccer fields. To date, 30 pitches have been completed or are in development, spanning 22 nonprofits, with more grants set to be announced this fall.
GA 100’s journey began in 2020, with a $1.6 million award to LISC for the first 20 mini-pitches. In 2023, an additional $3.36 million was invested, further accelerating the initiative. The program continues to transform communities by providing safe, high-quality soccer spaces across the state.
