ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The management and fans of Atlanta United FC are hoping for a better performance from Argentine central midfielder Santiago Sosa in the Major League Soccer 2022 season.
On Tuesday, Sosa underwent a successful sports hernia surgery.
Sources said Sosa will use the offseason to recover and will be re-assessed in a few weeks to better determine the timeline for his recovery.
The United FC is hopeful, Sosa, 22 can recover quickly and perform even better for the team next year.
Sosa is considered one of the future stars of the team.
In the quarterfinals match of United FC in the CONCACAF Champions League early this year, Sosa played well.
In the third straight quarterfinals exit of the United against the Philadelphia Union 4-1, Sosa is a huge revelation.
The Argentinian scored the team’s only goal in their 1-1 draw against the home team Union at Subaru Park.
The goal is sweet for Sosa since it is his first-ever goal in the professional level after signing with the MLS ball club in February.
The strong performance of Sosa is also an indication that the United FC management made the right decision to sign him to a reported $6m.
Despite his age, Sosa already displays an impressive reading of the game, calmness under pressure, and a wide range of passing.
When the United sign Sosa, many soccer experts hailed the signing since the young Argentinian has the talent and potential to be a football star someday.
The experts said with proper guidance, exposure, and training, Sosa has the potential of carrying United to greater heights in the future.
The experts added while another CCL exit is a hard pill to swallow it is still a blessing since the American soccer fans were able to see in the flesh the talent and potential of Sosa.
