ATLANTA, GEORGIA—To boost the roster of the team, the Atlanta United FC has signed promising defender Aiden McFadden to a short-term deal.
Based on Major League Soccer Roster Rules and Regulations, a club may sign a player, age 25 or younger during the league season, from its affiliate (MLS NEXT Pro / USL) to a maximum of four Short-Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) each season (maximum of 16 days).
The rule also states that an individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches.
Also, an individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four Short-Term Agreements.
Atlanta United 2 signed McFadden on April 21, 2021, after selecting the former Notre Dame midfielder with the No. 59 overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. McFadden tallied eight goals and three assists in 29 USL appearances in 2021.
Last March 5, the visiting United FC fell to the home team Colorado Rapids 3-0 at Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Commerce City, Colo.
United FC was not on its usual element as it missed some shots and allowed the home team to score three goals.
The absence of midfielder Luiz Araújo is also felt by the team as they fail to find some scoring ways on his position.
Araujo is out for four weeks with a hamstring injury.
Araújo suffered the injury in the 20th minute during the club’s season-opening 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City last February 27
The absence of Araujo is a loss since he is one of the expected scorers for the team this year.
In fact, in their first game, he scored one of the three winning goals for the team.
Despite the loss, the current MLS season remains bright for the team all they need to find their groove and a good game plan to offset the loss of its key players.
Before their defeat, the team celebrated the selection of star Venezuelan striker Josef Martinez to the 2022 MLS Team of the Week.
Martinez got the honor earlier after helping his team win its first game of the MLS season.
Although Martinez failed to score a goal, he dished out two assists in their victory.
