ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The visiting Atlanta United FC overcome the hot weather and tired legs to salvage a 1-1 draw against the home team Inter Miami CF Sunday at DRV PNK Stadium.
Coming into the game Atlanta United has been playing eight games in slightly more than a month.
The United started strong in the game and even took the lead in the first 10 minutes in the match after Josef Martínez scored his first goal of the season, and his first since Feb. 25, 2020, before his season-ending injury.
From the get-go, the United played solid on both offense and defense as United’s starting goalkeeper Brad Guzan was solid as a rock in protecting the team’s goal.
Sensing danger, the home team tried to catch up with United and took advantage of the steering heat of the sun to create scoring opportunities for the team.
The aggressive play of Inter Miami yielded a positive result as Lewis Morgan scored a goal on the 77th minute to equalize the score.
The two teams tried to score another goal before the time runs out to no avail.
Guzan played superbly for United as he was able to score a season-high six saves for the team.
Despite the draw, Atlanta (1-2-1, 5 points) remains optimistic as they return to action Saturday, May 15 against CF Montreal at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the club’s first full-capacity home match of the season (7:00 p.m., Bally Sports Southeast, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game).
