ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The home team Atlanta United FC is hoping to get back to its winning ways when they face the dangerous Philadelphia Union on June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Aside from getting back to winning, the United are also extra motivated to beat the Union since the latter beat them in the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals this year.
After beating the United the Union Philadelphia Union progressed into the last four, where they will face Club America later this year.
While the United is very focused on a revenge win against Union, doing it will not be easy since the team will be missing its top two players star midfielder Emerson Hyndman and star striker Josef Martinez.
Hyndman suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during training and Martinez is currently focused on playing for Venezuela in the Copa America tournament in Brazil.
Sources said Martinez will likely miss at least four games and potentially five, all depending on how far Venezuela advances and the player’s general fitness level after so much traveling.
To beat the Union, the young strikers of United namely Cubo Torres, Eric Lopez, Ezequiel Barco, and Jackson Conway should give their A-game come game time on Sunday.
The visiting Union for its part is feeling confident when they face United again since they got four wins from their last five and an overall eight games.
The Union even made it three wins in a row with a 3-0 triumph over the Portland Timbers in their previous outing before the break.
While the odds of beating the Union are not on their side, Gabriel Heinze is very motivated to execute a game-plan that will carry United to a win against the Union in their crucial game.
