ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The Atlanta United FC (2-1-5, 11 points) hopes to get back to its winning ways after three successive draws when they visit the dangerous New York City FC at Red Bull Arena on June 23.
Beating the home team will not be easy for United since they will be playing without their head coach Argentine Gabriel Heinze who was suspended in the game due to yellow cards accumulation.
Aside from Heinze, the team will also be missings the top two players in star midfielder Emerson Hyndman and star striker Josef Martinez.
Hyndman is out with an ACL injury while Martinez is playing for Venezuela in the ongoing Copa America tournament in Brazil.
To beat New York, United assistant coach Mariano Toedtli must come up with a good game plan against the home team.
United veteran goalkeeper Brad Guzan also needs to play tough defense to stop the home team from scoring.
Coming off a 3-2 loss against New England Revolution on Sunday, New York is very determined to defeat United and bring joy to their fans.
This will be the ninth meeting between the two Eastern Conference sides. Atlanta United has been the better of the two teams, claiming four wins, while New York FC has picked up two. Two other games have ended all square.
Their last encounter came back in September 2019, when New York City cruised to a comfortable 4-1 victory on home turf.
