ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The quest of Atlanta United FC’s attacking midfielder and winger Ezequiel Barco and Argentina to win the coveted gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is now officially over.
This scenario developed after Argentina failed to reach the quarterfinals of the men’s soccer event of the Olympics.
Argentina, a former Olympic men’s soccer champion failed to get a slot in the knockout stage after their 1-1 draw against Spain on Wednesday.
According to reports Argentina needs to beat Spain in their match to advance to the playoffs but their performance only yielded a draw.
Barco is a regular member of the Argentine national team as he made 14 appearances with Argentina’s U-20 National Team and scored twice and added two assists in four games at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Barco also earned his first cap with Argentina’s U-23s in a 1-0 win against Brazil’s U-23s on November 17, 2019.
The young Argentine midfielder is playing well for United this year’s MLS season.
Barco is also one of the key players of United as it seeks to win the MLS championship crown this year.
