ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The quest of Atlanta United FC’s attacking midfielder, and winger Ezequiel Barco and Argentina to win the coveted gold medal in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics has a rough start.
Argentina, a former Olympic men’s soccer champion suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Australia at the Sapporo Dome in Tokyo on July 22.
Barco is a regular member of the Argentine national team as he made 14 appearances with Argentina’s U-20 National Team and scored twice and added two assists in four games at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Barco also earned his first cap with Argentina’s U-23s in a 1-0 win against Brazil’s U-23s on November 17, 2019.
The young Argentine midfielder is playing well for United this year’s MLS season.
Under the guidance of Gabriel Heinze, Barco has contributed goals for United this year.
Barco is also one of the key players of United as it seeks to win the MLS championship crown this year.
