ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Atlanta United FC’s mercurial Argentine playmaker Ezequiel Barco is penalized by Major League Soccer for simulation/embellishment violation.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee found Barco guilty of simulation/embellishment in the 51st minute of Atlanta’s match against Inter Miami CF on Sept. 29.
The MLS did not disclose how much penalty Barco needs to pay for his offense.
Barco is having a great year for United FC.
For the sixth time this year, Barco was selected as part of the Major League Soccer player of the week for week 26.
The 22-year-old is putting together the best season of his Atlanta United career.
He’s already reached career highs in goals (7) and assists (6). His productive run in August landed Barco on Team of the Week three consecutive times.
“Preparation,” Barco said when asked about the key to his consistent performances.
“I think we have to keep preparing 100 percent during the week leading up to these games because that is what helps you mentally, physically,” Barco added.
Aside from Barco, teammate defensive specialist George Bello also made it to the MLS team of the week.
The Homegrown defender scored his first goal of the season off an assist from midfielder Marcelino Moreno during Saturday’s match. It was Bello’s first time being named to Team of the Week this season and the second time in his career.
