ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Playing in front of its mammoth fans, the Atlanta United FC displayed its best attacks for 2021 but such a show of force still fell short after the visiting Nashville SC salvage a 2-2 draw against the home team Saturday afternoon at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The home team United started like a house on fire as goals from Marcelino Moreno and Erik Lopez gave the team the lead for the majority of the 90 minutes.
However, Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar scored a pair of late goals to help his team secure a draw against the United who failed to capitalize on its two goals lead.
With the draw, United is now 2-4-1 and in 7th place in the Eastern Conference.
United’s George Bello who plays solid for the team this year is sad and disappointed with the draw saying the outcome feels like a loss for him.
“Even though we tied, for me at least and I’m sure for a lot of the guys, this feels like a loss,” Bello said.
“It’s in the past now. We have a break so we have to regroup, just get ready to keep going,” Bello added.
Although the outcome of the game is disappointing, there are still a lot of positive things for the United in this game.
Moreno’s goal makes him United’s leading goalscorer in Major League Soccer action with three goals this season.
Miles Moreno for his part is superb in making passes for his teammates this year.
Lopez on the other hand is one happy dude after he scored his first goal for the Five Stripes in the 51st minute.
“It was a beautiful feeling to score my first goal for Atlanta United, and it felt amazing to do it in this stadium,” Lopez said.
“It’s something that I’ll always remember for the rest of my life,” Lopez added.
United’s next game will be against the Philadelphia Union at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on June 20th.
