ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Atlanta United FC defensive specialist Miles Robinson is one happy and proud dude these days.
Robinson is one of the three finalists for the coveted 2021 Major League Soccer defender of the year award.
The 24-year-old Robinson faces Yeimar Gómez (Seattle Sounders FC) and Walker Zimmerman (Nashville SC) for the award.
The year 2021 is a solid year for Robinson who was also named the 2021 MLS All-Star Game last August 25 at 9 p.m. ET at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles.
Robinson is among the 28 MLS players selected to play in the All-Star game featuring the top players of MLS this season.
The selection came after Robinson played hero for the United States Men’s Soccer Team (USMNT) in their dramatic 1-0 win over Mexico in the 2021 Gold Cup final last August 1 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Robinson scored a header in the 117th minute on a free kick to give USMNT the victory and the Gold Cup crown.
Robinson who also scored a header in the early wins of the USMNT in the Gold Cup tournament is very happy with his winning header.
The 2021 Gold Cup is the seventh crown of USMNT in the tournament.
USMNT reached the finals of the Gold Cup after a dramatic 1-0 victory against Asian soccer powerhouse Qatar in the semifinal round in Austin, Texas, on Thursday night.
USMNT striker Gyasi Zardes provided the winning and late goal for the team in their hard-fought win against Qatar.
With so much at stake in the match, the two teams fought toe to toe from the get-go.
As the game is headed to a scoreless draw, Zardes provided some late-game heroics to carry his team to the Gold Cup championship.
