ATLANTA, GEORGIA—The young guns of Atlanta United FC could take charge for the team when it faces the Philadelphia Union on June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
This scenario developed since United’s top two players star midfielder Emerson Hyndman and star striker Josef Martinez are not around when the team faces the Union.
Hyndman suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during training and Martinez is currently focused on playing for Venezuela in the Copa America tournament in Brazil.
Sources said Martinez will likely miss at least four games and potentially five, all depending on how far Venezuela advances and the player’s general fitness level after so much traveling.
Without Hyndman and Martinez, the young strikers of United namely Cubo Torres, Eric Lopez, Ezequiel Barco, and Jackson Conway are expected to play a crucial role for the team when it faces the Union on Sunday.
Against the dangerous Union team on the 20th of June, Heinze must find ways to create a good game plan to beat the visitor and get back to the win column.
In its last game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on May 30, United suffered a 2-2 draw against the visiting Nashville SC.
