Atlanta United closed out its preseason with a 3-2 victory over FC Dallas in Marietta, setting the stage for the home opener against CF Montréal on February 22. The match, played under foggy skies at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground, marked the fifth straight friendly without a loss under new head coach Ronny Deila.
A major highlight was Emmanuel Latte Lath’s debut, following his arrival from Middlesbrough FC. The club’s new designated player made an immediate impact with his pace and pressing. “He looked good—quick, sharp, and a real asset,” said Deila.
Saba Lobjanidze starred with a brace, scoring early and then volleying home a second after halftime. FC Dallas responded with a set-piece goal, but Edwin Mosquera’s clinical finish from a Jay Fortune assist secured Atlanta’s third. Dallas pulled one back via a penalty, but the 5-Stripes held on.
Mateusz Klich and Bartosz Slisz anchored the midfield, while Miguel Almirón, returning to Atlanta, nearly added to the tally with a trademark rocket off the crossbar.
With the preseason behind them, Deila is optimistic but grounded: “We’re building. Five games unbeaten shows mentality, but we have work to do.”
