Atlanta United announced today that Director of High Performance Dave Tenney has departed the club to join Real Salt Lake, with the 5-Stripes receiving compensation for Tenney’s release as part of the agreement.
Tenney’s exit comes as Atlanta United prepares for the 2026 MLS season, prompting the club to begin an immediate search for his replacement. In the interim, Chief Medical Officer Dr. R. Amadeus Mason will oversee the club’s medical and performance operations on a day-to-day basis.
Tenney joined Atlanta United in December 2024, arriving from Austin FC, where he served from 2020–2024. His resume spans more than a decade across multiple professional sports organizations, including three seasons with the NBA’s Orlando Magic (2017–2020) and 11 combined years in Major League Soccer with Seattle Sounders (2009–2017) and Sporting Kansas City (2007–2008).
Widely respected across MLS for his work in player performance, sports science, and injury prevention, Tenney brought extensive experience to Atlanta during a transitional period for the club. His move to Real Salt Lake marks the next chapter in a career that has consistently blended high-level sports medicine with elite performance environments.
Atlanta United now turns its focus to identifying a successor who can support the club’s competitive ambitions and evolving high-performance standards under head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino.
