Atlanta, GA – Atlanta United fans have reason to celebrate as the club announced today the re-signing of defender Ronald Hernández to a contract through 2025, with an option for 2026.
Hernández, a reliable and dynamic presence in the backline, enjoyed his most active season in 2024, starting 14 of his 21 appearances across all competitions. This includes 13 MLS regular-season matches and four playoff appearances during Atlanta’s impressive run in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. Since joining Atlanta in 2021, Hernández has made 63 appearances in all competitions, cementing his place as a trusted defender for the club.
The 27-year-old Venezuelan international originally joined Atlanta United on loan from Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership before signing permanently. A product of Venezuela’s Zamora FC, Hernández launched his professional career in 2015 before moving to Norwegian club Stabæk in 2017, where he made 61 appearances over three seasons.
On the international stage, Hernández has earned 33 caps for Venezuela, contributing one goal and three assists since making his senior team debut in World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay in 2017. His experience and leadership have been invaluable both for his country and for Atlanta.
Atlanta United’s offseason continues to heat up, with Free Agency and the MLS SuperDraft on the horizon. Fans can expect more action as the team builds its roster for the 2025 season.
