Atlanta United is finally coming home. After 98 days away from Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 5-Stripes will welcome their supporters back to the Benz on Saturday night when they host Red Bull New York in a crucial MLS regular-season matchup.
The long-awaited return comes after a difficult stretch of away matches and gives Atlanta United an opportunity to reset in front of the 17s. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 15, with the match streaming on Apple TV.
For a team that has struggled to consistently give its supporters the attacking, energetic soccer they expect, returning home could be exactly what Atlanta needs.

Atlanta United head coach Tata Martino knows Saturday is about more than simply playing another league match. After spending much of the season searching for consistency, the 5-Stripes want to reconnect with their supporters and remind them what this team can look like when everything clicks.
“It’s something we’ve been looking for since the start of the season,” Martino said. “It’s the greatest search a team has, that the fans feel represented.”

New Faces Could Make Their Home Debuts
Atlanta’s return home could also introduce fans to some important new pieces.
Defenders Júnior Alonso and Paulo Díaz were brought in during the Secondary Transfer Window and could feature together for the first time in front of the Atlanta crowd. Díaz could potentially make his first appearance for the 5-Stripes after completing the necessary visa process.
The experienced defensive duo arrives at an important moment for Atlanta. The club has conceded multiple goals in each of its last three matches, making defensive organization one of the biggest areas to watch against New York.
Alonso said the group understands the situation and remains determined to turn things around.
“We know we’re in a difficult situation, but we want to help the club and get out of it,” Alonso said.
Atlanta’s newest midfielder, Mauricio Amaro, will have to wait for his debut. The 21-year-old Uruguayan was listed as unavailable for Saturday’s match because of the visa process following his move from Defensor Sporting Club.
Can Almirón and Miranchuk Deliver the Firepower?
With Emmanuel Latte Lath now on loan with Union Berlin, Atlanta will need other attacking players to carry the scoring load.
That puts even more attention on captain Miguel Almirón and attacking midfielder Alexey Miranchuk.
Almirón enters the match in excellent scoring form, having found the net in three consecutive matches. Miranchuk has been one of Atlanta’s most productive players this season, leading the team in both goals and assists.
Against a Red Bull New York side known for its aggressive pressing, Miranchuk’s ability to find space and escape pressure could be especially important.
Fafa Picault and Homegrown forward Luke Brennan could also play significant roles as Martino looks for the right attacking combination.
Red Bull New York Could Make This a Shootout
If Atlanta was hoping for a quiet return home, the Red Bulls probably aren’t the opponent it wanted.
New York arrives sitting in a Wildcard Playoff position, but its season has been anything but predictable. The Red Bulls have been involved in several high-scoring matches, including a 6-1 loss, a 4-4 draw and a 4-2 victory.
In fact, only one of New York’s matches this season has finished with just one total goal.
That makes Saturday’s matchup particularly intriguing. Atlanta will need to balance its desire to attack with the defensive discipline that has been missing during recent games.
The Red Bulls also have plenty of attacking threats, with Cade Cowell and Emil Forsberg providing service for forwards such as Jorge Ruvalcaba and 18-year-old MLS All-Star Julian Hall.
For Atlanta, stopping New York’s press while creating space for Almirón and Miranchuk could be one of the defining tactical battles.

Saturday represents more than Atlanta United’s first home match in 98 days.
