Atlanta United Adds Experienced Midfielder Steven Alzate
Atlanta United announced the signing of Steven Alzate from Hull City of the English Football League Championship, pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa. The Colombian international joins the Five Stripes through the 2030 season and will occupy an international roster spot.
Alzate is the fourth incoming player during the MLS Secondary Transfer Window, which runs through August 21.
“We’re excited to sign Steven and look forward to welcoming him to the club and the city of Atlanta,” said Chris Henderson, Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director. “He’s a technical midfielder, shows good quality on the ball in possession, and brings experience from multiple leagues in Europe.”

A Career Built Across Europe
Alzate arrives in Atlanta with 200 career appearances, 15 goals, and 19 assists across competitions in the English Premier League, EFL Championship, and Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League.

- Standard Liege (2022-24): 54 appearances, 5 goals, 9 assists
- Brighton & Hove Albion (2019-22): 51 appearances, 3 goals, 2 assists

Notably, Alzate scored his first Premier League goal in Brighton’s 1-0 win at Liverpool on Feb. 3, 2021.
He also reunites with Ronny Deila, having played under him at Standard Liege during the 2022-23 season, contributing 2 goals and 5 assists in 24 matches.
🇨🇴 Colombian International Experience
Born in London to Colombian parents, the 26-year-old midfielder represents Colombia at the international level. He has 7 senior caps since his debut on Nov. 16, 2019, and most recently appeared in a friendly against Mexico on Sept. 28, 2022.
Alzate’s experience in high-pressure European matches and international fixtures is expected to provide leadership and creativity in Atlanta’s midfield.
