Atlanta United is starting to find its rhythm at exactly the right time.
The 5-Stripes spoiled Minnesota United’s 10-year celebration Wednesday night, rallying behind spectacular goals from Tomás Jacob and Tristan Muyumba to earn a 2-1 victory at Allianz Field.
The win marks Atlanta’s second consecutive victory in five days, giving Tata Martino’s squad a much-needed burst of momentum after a difficult stretch of the MLS season.
It also continues a trend that has been building since Atlanta returned from the FIFA World Cup break. After coming from behind to beat Red Bull New York at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the 5-Stripes showed they could grind out another road result against a Minnesota side celebrating a major club milestone.
Tomás Jacob Opens the Scoring With a Golazo
The opening 45 minutes were a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating dangerous chances.
Atlanta goalkeeper Lucas Hoyos came up with one of the biggest saves of the opening half in the 16th minute, sprinting off his line to deny Anthony Markanich from point-blank range.
Miguel Almirón nearly gave Atlanta the lead in the 20th minute when he headed a Fafa Picault cross off the post, although the play was eventually ruled offside.
Minnesota continued to threaten, but the 5-Stripes struck first in the 37th minute.
After Atlanta recycled possession from a corner, Tristan Muyumba’s deflected long-range attempt fell to Tomás Jacob at the top of the box. The Argentine right back settled the bouncing ball before unleashing a spectacular first-time strike into the left side of the net.
It was Jacob’s second MLS goal of the season and another reminder of the attacking ability he brings from the back line.

Minnesota Responds, But Muyumba Delivers Again
The Loons came out aggressively after halftime, while Atlanta looked to protect its advantage.
Almirón nearly doubled the lead in the 49th minute after Alexey Miranchuk slipped him through, but Minnesota goalkeeper Drake Callender produced an outstanding foot save.
Minnesota eventually found its equalizer in the 57th minute when Markanich converted from a set-piece sequence.
The goal changed the momentum. Minnesota pushed forward, and Atlanta was forced to withstand sustained pressure.
That’s when Tristan Muyumba delivered once again.
In the 78th minute, Tomás Jacob won a physical battle and helped spark a counterattack. Miranchuk collected the ball and laid it off for Muyumba, who created space with a clever fake before firing an unstoppable shot into the top-left corner.
It was Muyumba’s third consecutive match with a goal, continuing one of the hottest individual stretches of his Atlanta United career.
His recent surge comes at a critical time for the 5-Stripes, who are beginning to show signs of the attacking identity Tata Martino has been demanding.

Hoyos and the Defense Hold the Line
Atlanta still had plenty of work to do after Muyumba’s winner.
Minnesota continued applying pressure late, but Hoyos came through when the 5-Stripes needed him most. The goalkeeper finished with three saves and a tackle, helping Atlanta preserve the lead through a chaotic final stretch.
The defensive effort also received a boost from the bench.
Matt Edwards, Enea Mihaj and Paulo Díaz helped Atlanta close out the match, with Díaz making his Atlanta United debut after completing his visa process.
Stian Gregersen was another standout, winning six aerial duels and recording six interceptions, including an MLS-best six interceptions for the Norwegian center back.
Atlanta didn’t dominate possession, but the 5-Stripes were effective when their opportunities arrived.
What This Means for Atlanta United
Two wins in five days changes the feeling around Atlanta United.
The 5-Stripes have now demonstrated that they can win in different ways: first with a late comeback against Red Bull New York at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and then by taking a lead on the road and surviving Minnesota’s pressure.
Young midfielder Adrian Gill also continues to be an important part of that evolving story after his impressive MLS debut against New York. His emergence gives Martino another option in the middle of the field as Atlanta pushes through a congested portion of the schedule.

The biggest individual storyline, however, may be Muyumba.
Three straight matches with a goal is a remarkable turnaround for a midfielder who had scored only three times previously for Atlanta United. Now he’s scoring in consecutive games and helping deliver points.
Meanwhile, Miranchuk’s assist extended his streak to four straight matches with an assist, matching Héctor Villalba’s club record for consecutive regular-season games with an assist.
