ATLANTA (July 25, 2025) — Atlanta United announced today that it has agreed to transfer defender Efraín Morales to CF Montréal in exchange for up to $800,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). The transaction becomes official upon the opening of the MLS Secondary Transfer Window on Thursday, July 24.
As part of the deal, Atlanta will receive $450,000 in guaranteed 2025 GAM, with the potential to earn an additional $350,000 in conditional GAM based on performance incentives. Atlanta United will also retain a percentage of any future transfer involving Morales.
“Efraín was an original Academy member for the club and his pathway to MLS is a credit to his work ethic and professionalism,” said Chris Henderson, Atlanta United’s Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director. “We want to thank him for his service to the club and the Atlanta community and wish him the best of luck in his future.”
Morales, 21, was part of Atlanta United’s first Academy class in 2016-17 at the U-12 level and became the first player signed from that inaugural group when he inked a Homegrown deal in 2020. He scored in his professional debut for Atlanta United 2 on August 15, 2020.
The Bolivian international made 12 first team appearances for Atlanta United across all competitions, starting eight of his nine career MLS matches. He made his MLS debut on April 27, 2024, helping earn a clean sheet against Chicago Fire FC. Morales has earned six senior caps for Bolivia, debuting internationally on November 15, 2024.
