Atlanta United’s summer roster overhaul has taken another significant turn.
The club announced Wednesday that defender Stian Gregersen has been transferred to Malmö FF, one of Sweden’s most successful clubs, for an undisclosed transfer fee. The move brings an end to Gregersen’s tenure with the 5-Stripes after the Norwegian defender joined Atlanta United from French side Bordeaux in January 2024.
Gregersen leaves Atlanta having made 60 MLS regular-season and playoff appearances, starting 51 of them. During his time with the club, the center back recorded three goals and two assists while establishing himself as an experienced presence along Atlanta’s back line.
His departure comes during a busy period of change for Atlanta United, which has continued reshaping its squad as the 2026 season enters its crucial final stretch.
Gregersen Leaves His Mark on Atlanta United
Gregersen arrived in Atlanta with years of European experience and quickly became an important part of the club’s defensive group. His physical presence, ability in the air and experience helped provide stability during a period of transition for the 5-Stripes.
One of the most memorable moments of his Atlanta career came in 2024, when Gregersen scored the first brace of his professional career in a dramatic victory over the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew. His performance earned him recognition on the MLS Team of the Matchday and gave Atlanta supporters a glimpse of his impact on both sides of the field.

The club has added veteran international defenders Júnior Alonso and Paulo Díaz during the summer, while younger players and returning contributors have continued to compete for minutes across the back line. Atlanta United Roster Update
Following Gregersen’s transfer, Atlanta United’s roster now stands at 29 players, including nine defenders. Kaiden Moore remains on loan with the Philadelphia Union through the end of the 2026 season, while Ashton Gordon is on loan with Chattanooga FC, Emmanuel Latte Lath is on loan with Union Berlin and Adyn Torres is on loan with FC Nõmme United.
