Atlanta United Unified waited through the weather, waited through a late start and then made the most of its opportunity.
The 5-Stripes drew 1-1 with Inter Miami CF Unified late Saturday night following the Atlanta United First Team’s match in Miami. The Unified match officially kicked off at 11:35 p.m. ET, but neither the delayed start nor the long wait could take away from Atlanta’s performance.
The visiting side stayed sharp and carried its momentum into the match, scoring early before battling through a strong response from the hosts.
Most importantly, the result extended Atlanta United Unified’s unbeaten run, which dates back to 2023.
Xavier Hairston Strikes Again for Atlanta United Unified
Atlanta nearly opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Liam Stuart hit the post.
Stuart was searching for his second consecutive match with a goal, and his outside-of-the-boot attempt had the precision to beat the goalkeeper. Instead, the shot clipped the post and stayed out.
Atlanta did not have to wait long for its breakthrough.
Less than a minute later, Xavier Hairston put the 5-Stripes ahead.
Hairston, Atlanta United Unified’s all-time leading scorer, finished a chipped through ball from Connor Mcilhinney with his left foot to give Atlanta an early advantage.
It was another important moment for one of the program’s most productive scorers.
Inter Miami Responds Before Halftime
Atlanta’s early lead did not last the opening period.
Inter Miami goalkeeper and defense were tested again, but the hosts found an answer in the 20th minute when Darian Sierra finished a chance to bring Miami level.
Earlier, Atlanta goalkeeper Dee Harden had produced a crucial save in the 16th minute, diving low to his left to keep Miami from scoring.
The two teams entered the end of the first 25-minute period tied 1-1.
Atlanta came out of the break with renewed energy, pushing Miami backward and looking for another breakthrough.
Alex Guerrero took over in goal for the second half and immediately provided another layer of resistance.
The match continued to open up as both teams pushed for the winner.
Guerrero Comes Up Big Down the Stretch
With the match entering its final stages, Guerrero became particularly important for Atlanta.
The goalkeeper made two saves in the 44th minute, helping preserve the 1-1 scoreline as Miami increased the pressure.
Atlanta continued battling on the other end, but neither side could find the decisive second goal.
After navigating the weather delay and waiting until nearly midnight Eastern time to begin the match, the Unified players maintained their focus throughout.
The final whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw and another unbeaten result for Atlanta United Unified.
For a group that had already waited patiently for its chance to take the field, the performance showed that the circumstances surrounding the match did not affect its preparation.
What Atlanta United Unified’s Unbeaten Run Means
The result is about more than one late-night draw.
Atlanta United Unified has built an unbeaten run stretching back to 2023, and Saturday’s result against Inter Miami added another chapter to that run.
The performance also showcased the depth of the group.
Hairston provided the attacking moment, Mcilhinney created the opening with his chipped pass, Stuart came within inches of scoring and both Harden and Guerrero delivered important saves.
That balance was especially valuable against an Inter Miami side that responded quickly after falling behind.
The draw also reflected the patience required before the match even began. Rather than allowing the weather delay and unusual kickoff time to disrupt their focus, Atlanta stayed ready and competed from the opening whistle.

ASN TAKE
The final score tells only part of this story.
Atlanta United Unified had to wait through a weather delay before taking the field, then played after the First Team’s match had already concluded. Despite all of that, the group came out with energy, scored early and held Inter Miami to a 1-1 draw.
Xavier Hairston’s goal was the attacking highlight, but Atlanta’s goalkeeping was just as important. Dee Harden kept Miami out with a first-half stop, while Alex Guerrero made three second-half saves to help secure the result.
And the bigger takeaway is the unbeaten run.
Atlanta United Unified has not lost since 2023.
That’s a remarkable stretch of consistency and another reminder that the Unified program is about meaningful competition, preparation and giving players the opportunity to represent the 5-Stripes.
