Following two matchweeks spent away from home against D.C. For their final June game, Atlanta United and St. Louis CITY SC will return home. They will play Toronto FC, their northern rivals, on Saturday, June 19, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The 5-Stripes hope to replicate their impressive road play at home after managing to score four of their six points while abroad.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan discussed the recent success away from home, the development of Atlanta United players, and how to be ready for Toronto in the midst of a hectic schedule with the local media on Tuesday.
The 5-Stripes have now gone 2-0-1 on the road in their previous three games. A squad that is often unbeatable at home has been performing well away from home lately.
Goalkeeper Brad Guzan stated during a media conference that creating “more good chances than you are giving up” is the key to reproducing that success at home.
It might be challenging to contain the opposition not just from game to game but also during a hectic season. Soccer in the summer is not going to slow down anytime soon; Atlanta United will play six games in eighteen days, beginning with the encounter against Toronto.
“One of the most important things is being able to rest and recover mentally and physically. So that when you step on the field for the next game, you are ready to go,” said Guzan when asked about how the team can stay focused while playing such a congested schedule.
Every player has had to step up in order for the team to continue trying to achieve positive results in the face of injuries and roster changes. Atlanta United players currently make up a sizable portion of the backline for Atlanta. Atlanta started Derrick Williams, Noah Cobb, Brooks Lennon, Caleb Wiley, and Efrain Morales on the back line against St. Louis on Saturday.
Three of the athletes have been part of the group since their teenage years. Guzan has witnessed the development of the young players directly, having been a member of the 5-Stripes from their first season and a seasoned MLS player.
