ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Brazilian soccer superstar Neymar is very happy to represent his country in Copa America and bring joy to his people in this time of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Neymar made the statement after he scored his 68th goal for his country in Thursday’s 4-0 win over Peru in Copa America.
The Paris Saint-Germain star said representing Brazil on a global soccer stage is always a pleasure since it has always been his dream to play soccer for his beloved country.
“For me, it’s a great honor to be part of the history of the Brazilian team,” Neymar said.
“To be honest, it was always a dream of mine to play for Brazil,” Neymar added.
With their latest win, Brazil maintained their perfect start to the tournament.
Meanwhile, Brazil legend Pele lauded Neymar for his goal achievement and he hoped the ex-Barcelona attacker could break his goalscoring record with the national side.
A three-time World Cup winner, Pele scored 77 goals for Brazil, and Neymar, 29, needs 10 more to surpass him.
“Every time I see this boy, he is smiling;” Pele wrote on Instagram regarding Neymar.
