ATLANTA, GEORGIA—Brazilian soccer legend Pele is now recovering well and is set to spend Christmas at his house after he received treatment for nearly a month at a local hospital.
Kely Nascimento said her father, 80 is recovering after a tumor was removed from his colon on Sept. 4 at Sao Paulo’s Hospital Albert Einstein.
Pele stayed in the intensive care unit for days after his surgery.
The tumor was discovered at the end of August during a routine exam.
“In two or three days he will be back home to enjoy Christmas,” Nascimento said on Instagram.
“This was not a surprise. It was already scheduled and is part of the treatment,” Nascimento added.
Pele won 1958, 1962, and 1970 World Cups, and remains Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 77 goals in 92 matches.
