Brazilian club Cruzeiro eyeing Atlanta for youth soccer facility

Brazilian power Cruzeiro is considering several sites around the Atlanta metro area as the future home for a major youth soccer complex, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The facility could be as large as 100 acres in size and cost between $20 and $40 million. Meetings have reportedly been scheduled between Cruzeiro officials and local business organizations, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
Based in Belo Horizonte in southern Brazil, the club (whose full moniker is Cruzeiro Esporte Clube) is eyeing a move into the U.S. market and is attracted to Atlanta for its affordable land, transportation infrastructure and large youth soccer community. Possible involvement with Major League Soccer or other U.S. professional leagues has been mooted, but appears to be a distant possibility.
Recently retired Brazilian superstar Ronaldo began his pro career at Cruzeiro, and a long list of well-known professionals have passed through the club over the decades, including current Chelsea FC midfielder Ramires.
