Chattanooga FC has rewarded one of its own.
The club announced Monday that Richard Dixon has signed a multi-year contract to become Chattanooga FC’s permanent head coach after an outstanding stint as interim manager that has propelled the Boys in Blue into the upper tier of the MLS NEXT Pro Eastern Conference.
For Atlanta soccer fans following the region’s thriving professional clubs, Dixon’s appointment represents another milestone in Chattanooga’s remarkable growth story—and comes just days before a highly anticipated matchup against Atlanta United 2.
Interim No More
Dixon has served as Chattanooga FC’s interim head coach since February and has transformed the club into one of MLS NEXT Pro’s hottest teams.
Under his leadership, Chattanooga owns a 10-5-6 record (40 points) with four shootout victories and currently sits second in the 16-team Eastern Conference, boasting a +10 goal differential while firmly positioned for the postseason.
The club’s recent surge includes a nine-match unbeaten streak, highlighted by victories over Philadelphia Union II and Inter Miami CF II, helping establish Chattanooga as one of the league’s top contenders entering the final stretch of the season.
His first official match as permanent head coach will come on August 8 against Southeast Division rival Atlanta United 2 at Finley Stadium.
From First Player to Head Coach
Few people understand Chattanooga FC better than Richard Dixon.
His journey with the club began in 2020 when he became the first player in Chattanooga FC history to sign a professional contract.
Across four seasons, Dixon made 92 appearances before retiring following the 2023 campaign.
Instead of leaving the organization, he transitioned directly into the coaching staff, serving as Director of Performance beginning in 2024.
In that role, Dixon oversaw player conditioning, sports science, recovery protocols, nutrition, and strength programs before eventually stepping into the interim head coaching position earlier this season.
Now, he becomes the sixth head coach in club history.

Primary Owner Davis Grizzard described Dixon as the ideal leader to guide Chattanooga FC into its next chapter.
Grizzard praised Dixon for providing stability during a difficult transition while emphasizing that his leadership reflects both the club’s history and its future ambitions.
Sporting Director Sebastian Giraldo echoed that sentiment, pointing to Dixon’s professionalism, leadership, and relentless commitment to improving players and staff throughout the organization.
Giraldo also highlighted the respect Dixon has earned inside the locker room after working alongside him over the past two seasons.

He reflected on joining Chattanooga as its first professional signing and said he was originally drawn to the organization because of its vision and commitment to the community.
