Chattanooga FC has another chance to make club history on Friday night. The Boys in Blue travel to York Lions Stadium to face Toronto FC II carrying a 10-match unbeaten streak, with a result avoiding defeat enough to make it the longest unbeaten run of the club’s MLS NEXT Pro era.
Fresh off a gritty 1-0 victory over Atlanta United 2, Chattanooga enters the matchup in second place in the Eastern Conference and continues its push toward securing a playoff spot. It will also be another opportunity for new permanent head coach Richard Dixon to build on a perfect start since having the interim tag removed.
Chattanooga FC Looking to Make More History
Friday’s match represents another major milestone for the Boys in Blue.
Chattanooga’s unbeaten run has reached 10 matches, and avoiding defeat against Toronto would push that streak to 11 and establish a new club record during the MLS NEXT Pro era.
The team is coming off a 1-0 Southeast Division victory against Atlanta United 2 in Dixon’s first match as permanent head coach. Alex Krehl provided the difference once again, scoring his 13th goal of the season to move into outright second place in the MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot race.
Krehl has become one of the biggest offensive weapons in the league, and his continued scoring form could be crucial as Chattanooga enters the final stretch of the regular season.
Playoff Race Adds More Pressure
There is plenty at stake for both clubs.
Chattanooga currently sits second in the Eastern Conference, while Toronto FC II occupies 12th and remains in pursuit of a playoff position in an extremely competitive 16-team conference.
The two clubs will meet just once during the 2026 regular season, adding even more importance to Friday’s matchup.
Chattanooga holds the advantage in the all-time series, with a 2W-1L-1D record and one shootout victory against Toronto. The Boys in Blue have also won both previous meetings at York Lions Stadium.
The most memorable of those victories came late in the 2024 season, when Chattanooga exploded for a 5-1 victory in Toronto.
Coach’s Corner: Dixon Expects a Tough Test
Dixon knows Toronto will present a different challenge from the team Chattanooga faced last weekend.
“They’ve been on a good run of form,” Dixon said, pointing to Toronto’s impressive 4-2 road win over Chicago Fire FC II on Monday.
The Chattanooga coach highlighted Toronto’s possession game, ability to play through opponents and dangerous transition play. He also warned that the Canadian side can attack both through intricate buildup and direct balls over the top.
For Chattanooga, the challenge will be maintaining the defensive discipline that has helped fuel its unbeaten run while finding opportunities to exploit Toronto’s weaknesses.
Know the Opponent: Toronto FC II
Toronto FC II enters Friday’s match in 12th place in the Eastern Conference with an 8W-10L-3D, 1SOW record and 28 points.
The club is coming off its 4-2 victory at Chicago Fire FC II, giving Toronto some momentum heading into the matchup with Chattanooga.
Midfielder Jahmarie Nolan leads Toronto with eight goals this season, while forward Fletcher Bank has provided a team-high five assists.
Toronto is coached by Gianni Cimini, who is in his fifth season in charge.
One familiar name will also be available in Toronto’s goalkeeping group. Adisa De Rosario, son of Canadian soccer legend and former MLS star Dwayne De Rosario, is one of TFC II’s goalkeeping options.
