Chicago Fire FC II closed out its 2026 MLS NEXT Pro regular season at SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday, falling 1-0 to Chattanooga FC in a tightly contested Decision Day matchup.
Neither side could find the breakthrough during the opening 45 minutes, but Chattanooga captain Alex McGrath changed the game shortly after halftime, scoring in the 52nd minute to give the visitors the only goal they needed.
For Chicago Fire FC II, the result brought the regular season to a close.
The afternoon also marked the beginning of the next opportunity for three young players in the Chicago system, with Jason Nemo, Christopher Morales and Vitaliy Hlyut set to join their respective national teams for upcoming international friendlies.

Chicago and Chattanooga went into halftime scoreless, but the visitors found their opening seven minutes into the second half.
McGrath scored in the 52nd minute to put Chattanooga ahead.

Head coach Mike Matkovich also turned to his bench throughout the second half, with Emiliano Chavez, Harrison Bernhardt, Jhonier Montiel, Damyan Villanueva and Tidiane Diawara entering the match.
Chattanooga, coached by Richard Dixon, relied on McGrath’s goal and Jakupović’s six saves to finish the afternoon with all three points.
What the Final Match Says About Chicago
The 1-0 scoreline doesn’t tell the entire story.
Chicago generated twice as many shots as Chattanooga and had the majority of the possession and passing efficiency. But the inability to turn those opportunities into a goal ultimately decided the match.
That’s the frustrating part of a season finale like this.
There were opportunities.
There was pressure.
But Chattanooga was more efficient in the moments that mattered most.
